It’s been a while since my last update.  I’ve been working on a new project, Purpletown, that explores communities with very narrow margins in the last US presidential election. I’m also pleased to announce that I have created a store on my website to sell signed copies of my published books, including the first three that are out-of-print and available in only limited quantities.

Thanks to you, we successfully funded the Kickstarter for my book Past Time in 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic changed so many aspects of life all over the world. The book came out just prior to the 2020 US presidential election, a time of compounded anxiety and unprecedented political polarization in America.

I conceived of Purpletown during those dark days. As usual, I’m not in the mode of trying to preach or provide answers, instead engaging my own deep curiosity about the perplexing question- how can neighbors manage to peacefully coexist in small communities that are split right down the middle on fundamental issues of values and democracy? 

The first step was creating the custom map (shown above). I have, to date, photographed in 30 communities in eight states in the upper Midwest and New England. I’m still wrestling with how best to address this topic, and will be adding a new and surprising component using sourced images- stay tuned as it plays out!

The first three are out-of-print, and though you can find some of them at the Amazon deathstar and other online stores, mine are fresher, signed with loving care, and I get to keep the money instead of that billionaire guy.
