Purpletown (in progress)
America is a nation almost equally divided. The average winning popular vote margin in six presidential elections since 2000 is 3.44%. Until recently, most Americans across the political divide managed to live and work together with civility and neighborliness. Most on both sides will agree that in the aftermath of the 2020 election, this is no longer always the case.
Many states and communities in the 2020 U.S. presidential race were divided almost right down the middle with razor-thin margins. The divide is thin, but is it deep? Can it be bridged? Purpletown is an attempt address those questions.
Circles show Biden vs. Trump absolute margins between 0-2% in cities, towns and county subdivisions. They are coded by size for total votes, and color for margin (lower margin is more dense purple). Precincts shown beneath, margins colored blue-red (Biden vs. Trump) with low margins in purple. (Data not available for all or parts of AK, AL, ID, IN, KY, LA MO, VA)
