Testimonials:

Catherine Opie, photographer, Los Angeles:

Purpletown continues Paul Shambroom’s important observation of America and the significance of democracy. The images, filled with the sentiment of American life, often dance with the clichés of Americana, reflecting the slim margins of the country’s deep political divide. His work resonates in its portrayal of the everyday, bearing witness to these tensions. His ability to imbue the politics of our times into a new and profound body of work has always intrigued me, and Purpletown is ultimately a reminder that every vote counts.

Stephen Shore, photographer, New York:

Photography is better equipped to describe than to explain. This makes tackling certain cultural and political issues  challenging. Throughout his career, Paul Shambroom has taken on this challenge. Purpletown, for me, is his most successful project.
